*Edo govt takes awareness campaign on COVID-19 to markets*

The Edo State Government has urged traders dealing on essential commodities in markets across the state, to ensure they carry out the necessary preventive measures against the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters (Edo South), Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, gave the charge during sensitisation campaigns to markets in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Hon. Iyoha, who lead other government appointees visited Ekiosa and New Benin markets in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) and Uselu market in Egor LGA, where they gave out buckets with spigots and soap to enable traders to observe sanitary measures, including handwashing to contain the spread of COVID-19.

He urged the traders to ensure regular hand washing with the use of soaps or apply hand sanitizers, noting that the buckets with spigots donated to the traders will assist them in keeping to government directives.

Addressing journalists after the awareness campaign tour, Iyoha said, “We have to take proactive measures hence we had to go out and enlighten our people on the do's and don’ts to check the spread of the virus so as to keep themselves safe.”

The traders, who spoke to journalists expressed appreciation on the steps taken by the state government.

In line with the state government’s directive, the "New Market" on 2nd East Circular Road, where second hand clothes are sold, was closed to traders and buyers, as only traders dealing on essential commodities, mostly foodstuff were trading at the market.
