Obaseki's industrialisation drive: Edo sets for 4 additional production centres

In furtherance of Governor Godwin Obaseki's industrialization drive, the Edo State Government has engaged with key stakeholders in the state's industrial sector for the expansion of the Edo Production Centre initiative to four more locations across the state.   This move followed the success recorded with the pilot Edo Production Centre located at Sapele Road axis of Benin City, which has led to increased agitation from business owners for expansion of the initiative to accommodate more businesses.   Three of the new production centres are to be sited in Benin, and one in Auchi   Managing Director, Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, speaking during a stakeholders meeting on the new projects, said 3 of the four Centers would focus on providing a conducive co-creation space for furniture making, food processing, fashion and painting.   She noted that the session was organised to learn the peculiar challenges of the key players in the foc

  Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 18 Local Government Areas (LGA) of Edo State have flayed the alleged endorsement of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the consensus candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election in the state. The chairmen, in a statement, maintained that Pastor Ize-Iyamu is not a member of the party in the state, as he had left the APC in 2014 to contest the governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016, which he lost. CACOVID-19 supports Edo govt response to pandemic

Nigeria’s private sector coalition, the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID 19), has thrown his weight behind Edo State Government’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with donation of a truck of 6,000 bags of sugar. Receiving the donation on behalf of Edo State Government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Gowon Yakubu, said the gesture is commendable. He said the truck of 6000 bags of sugar is the second batch of relief materials received by the state government from the group in two days. He noted, “This is the second relief materials from CACOVID-19. The group earlier brought 6000 bags of sugar. The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has expressed concern over the rising cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state, noting that the recent upsurge suggests that the community spread of the virus is alarming. Obaseki, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, reassured that the state government remains committed to containing the COVID-19 pandemic and protecting Edo people. The governor said, “The first case was reported on the 23rd of March 2020, it took 60 days to reach the first 100 cases. But it took 10 days to move from 100 to over 200 cases. It tells you that the community spread is alarming.” The governor said, the state has screened over 260,000 people, from whom over 1,671 samples were collected for testing, with 240 cases confirmed in the state. According to him, “Our strategy is simple: screen, test and treat. We have a target to screen a minimum of 500,000 people and test 5,000 persons. CCETC-Ossiomo Power Plant set for test run, as Edo power sector opens for competition

Obaseki harps on increased awareness on biodiversity amid COVID-19

A socio-political group, Alliance for Collective Progress, has called for the prosecution of former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, over his administration's breach of the state’s Public Procurement Law in the construction of the Edo Specialist Hospital and supply of equipment for the hospital. Findings by the Justice James Oyomire (rtd) led-Judicial Commission of Inquiry indicted Comrade Oshiomhole over the circumstances surrounding the award of the contract for the construction of the hospital contrary to the state’s procurement laws.         During a protest at the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the group said Comrade Oshiomhole must be prosecuted for the infractions he ‘superintended’ and for inaugurating the hospital with alleged borrowed equipment. We’re making steady progress with contact tracing, POI tracking, case search, others - Edo govt

The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia has said the state is making steady progress in its efforts at containing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, noting that successes have been recorded in the state’s efforts at contact tracing, Persons of Interest (POI) tracking, active case search, among other activities to curtail the spread of the virus in Edo. Okundia, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, noted that the state government has taken serious steps to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and protect Edo people. According to the commissioner, while contact tracing and line-listing are on-going in all affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, active case search and POIs tracking are ongoing in all the state’s 18 LGAs. The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said the state government is remodelling the Stella Obasanjo Hospital Isolation Centre (SOHIC) to be the best in Nigeria, with state-of-the-art facilities to manage all stages of coronavirus (COVID-19) disease. The governor said this while on inspection of the expanded 300-bed isolation facility in Benin City. The governor said a lot has gone into the refurbishment of the hospital, noting that the transformation of the facility has been rapid with the deployment of human and material resources to ensure that it is brought up to standard to hold more patients, especially with rising cases of coronavirus in the state. According to him, “The facility will be handed over upon completion. This is one of the best isolation centres in the country with about 300 beds. It is well-structured with input from some of the best professionals in terms of infectious disease management in Nigeria. These experts are from Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.”

The Management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has donated 5000 reusable and washable facemasks to the Edo State Government, as a contribution to the state's campaign against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.   Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, who was represented by the Director, Center for Entrepreneurial/Career Studies, AAU, Ekpoma, Engr. Prof. Osadolor Odia, presented the materials to the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq. at Government House, Benin City, on Friday.   Prof. Onimawo said the materials were donated in support of the state government's effort to rid the state of COVID-19, noting that the facemasks are convenient to use.   According to him, "The facemasks were produced at Ambrose Alli University by the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.
