Obaseki, Decagon to launch Edo Tech Parktomorrow, Dec 14

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki will tomorrow, December 14, 2020 launch the Edo Tech Park, in partnership with Decagon, an elite software engineering and leadership training institute.

A brainchild of the Governor Obaseki-led administration, the Edo Tech Park is a technology hub that is being developed to train at least 15,000 software engineers in Edo State and position them to work remotely in the state for high-paying global clients. It forms part of the state's strategy to become the technology outsourcing nerve centre in Africa.

Governor Obaseki, who has placed a premium on creating a digital economy in the state, announced during his inauguration speech that he plans to operate a digital Edo before 2025.

Preparatory to this, the government had entered into partnership with leading technology infrastructure provider, Main One, to lay fibre optic cables across the Benin metropolitan area and attracted 55MW CCETC-OSSIOMO IPP to the state for stable power supply.

The launch of the tech park will see to the commencement of efforts to recruit the first batch of software engineers from the state who are billed to commence training at the Edo Tech Park.

Director, Strategic Partnership, Decagon, Mr. George Imoedemhe, said the governor conceptualized the idea of the park and invited Decagon to drive the project.

He added that the government is determined to tackle illegal migration by providing youths with an opportunity to acquire world-class skills in the state and work remotely from Benin for global clients and get paid in foreign currencies.

According to him, “The state government's choice of Decagon is to drive execution speed by leveraging the experience and expertise of a team already focused on profitably solving this problem and ensure sustainability is baked into the initiative thereby allowing it to remain impactful across successive government administrations.
